Formatting Guidelines

These tables outline the information that should be included in each section above for disease-related pages. The overview section is used to provide basic information regarding the disease process. There is no need to go into depth regarding the disease process here, this is more of a one-liner about the disease.

Overview
Section Content
Overview One-liner about the page that summarizes the disease process.
History Any relevant history of the disease process, such as first documented case or origin of the Eponymous disease name.

The pathophysiology section is a more in-depth description of the disease process. The relevant anatomy section should include images and diagrams of the anatomy in question where appropriate. Disease etiology will likely be the most extensive section here, where the pathology will be explained in the context of patient history and relevant anatomy. The genetics and histology sections can be used to elaborate each of those relationships to the disease process as relevant, but can be deleted if not relevant. For histology, images are encouraged where appropriate.

Pathophysiology
Section Content
Relevant Anatomy Limited description of the anatomy with images in a gallery format.
Disease Etiology Description of the disease process. Tends to be the most extensive section of this category.
Genetics Information about any genes or proteins that are relevant to the disease process.
Histology Hallmark histologies features of the disease process. Include images where appropriate.

The diagnosis section is used to guide the diagnosis of the disease in question. The patient history section is used to present the typical clinical course of patients presenting with this condition. The physical exam section contains signs and symptoms of the disease. The laboratory tests and imaging sections should report labs and scans that are useful to order in the diagnosis of or exclusion of this disease, with expected findings. The differential diagnosis section contains similar diseases that should be considered.

Diagnosis
Section Content
Patient History Typical clinical course and pertinent HPI questions to ask.
Physical Examination Signs and symptoms consistent with this disease presentation.
Laboratory Tests Useful lab tests to order.
Imaging Useful imaging to order and characteristic findings. Use images as able.
Differential Diagnosis List of similar diagnoses to consider. If the list is long, consider breaking into separate lists (i.e. common vs uncommon, etc.)

The management section covers interventions available for the disease process. Both surgical and non-surgical sections should include consult services that should be considered.

Management
Section Content
Medical Management Non-surgical interventions. Should include both medications (i.e. antibiotics) and consultation to other services that can assist.
Surgical Management Surgical interventions. Should include consultation to other surgical services that can assist.

The final section covers the outcomes of this disease process. Consider both short-term and long-term outcomes, as well as complications from the disease process and the interventions to correct it.

Outcomes
Section Content
Complications Possible sequelae from this disease process. Consider both complications of the disease process itself and the appropriate interventions.
Prognosis Outcomes rates with and without intervention.
